All About Tea

Darjeeling Tea

Darjeeling is an area in North India which has a climate greatly suited to tea bushes. Tea is not native to this area but was smuggled in to India from China in a diplomatic bag because it was noted that it would be a great area for tea production. This happened back in 1852 and tea has been produced in the region ever since. By 2002 there were some 87 tea gardens producing 10.73 million Kg per year.

Described as the champagne of teas first flush Darjeeling is fresh, sweet and young and picked in the Spring ( March/April). The Autumn picking, or Muscatel, is a more complicated flavour with more happening in the mouth.

Cotswold Tea has been importing Darjeeling from the Poobong Tea Estate since 2004 and each year the flavour is slightly different , depending on the weather over the winter period.

Darjeeling is better known as an afternoon tea in the UK but in India it is enjoyed at any time of the day and often with milk and sugar.

Generally served without milk in the UK it is a light and refreshing tea.

Dear Customers

With this long dry spell we have had keeping hydrated is a big challenge but somehow tea always comes up to the mark, be it a rousing cup of Assam or a refreshing light cup of Darjeeling. I have been resting up on the deck of my narrow boat with many a cup of Darjeeling this last month in between packing the new teas like cazy of course!

As it comes arround to the summer holidays I know a number of you just can't go away without your own tea so make sure you get your order in before you set off for your well earned rest.

Have a great summer and take care!

Regards
