All About Tea

Assam Tea

For a remote state in North East India Assam has a tremendous resonance with the British. For generations tea from Assam has formed the mainstay of the British tea trade with India. Since 2003 the Assam tea imported by Cotswold Tea has been at the centre of both our mail order and commercial sales.

Assam tea produces the breakfast teas for Scotland and Ireland and is one of the two principal teas in English Breakfast. In England Assam tea is routinely drunk with milk whilst in Germany Assam is drunk on its own. The versatility of tea from this area is one reason to explain its popularity. Another is that both production methods for tea, Orthodox and CTC produce high quality products from Assam. This is the only tea growing area in India from which Cotswold Tea sources CTC tea. Assam teas regularly fill three of the five places in our best sellers list. If you are looking to start exploring the world of fine tea the estates of Assam are excellent places to start.

Assam tea has another claim to fame. Tea bushes in Assam are from the Genus Camellia Sinsensis Assamica rather than the Chinese plant Camellia Sinsensis Sinsensis originally from Yunnan Province. The more rounded leaves produce a tea that has certainly found favour with the British.

Dear Customers

With this long dry spell we have had keeping hydrated is a big challenge but somehow tea always comes up to the mark, be it a rousing cup of Assam or a refreshing light cup of Darjeeling. I have been resting up on the deck of my narrow boat with many a cup of Darjeeling this last month in between packing the new teas like cazy of course!

As it comes arround to the summer holidays I know a number of you just can't go away without your own tea so make sure you get your order in before you set off for your well earned rest.

Have a great summer and take care!

Regards
